Multiple Version IDF Conversions Readme

Beginning with EnergyPlus v8.4.0 Update 1, the EnergyPlus installers include all transition programs from v7.2.0 to current. This folder contains contains all of the conversion (Transition) programs from the initial 1.0.0 release up to version 8.4.0. (First conversion program goes from V1.0 files to V1.0.1 files) These programs can be used to convert one or a set of files to the latest version or to any intermediate version.

Note: to convert a set of files, one creates a .lst file that contains the filenames (including path) for the IDFVersionConverter program to read.  (more details in the Auxiliary Programs document).

Installation instructions:

Windows: Unzip the files to <main EnergyPlus folder>\PreProcess\IDFVersionUpdater

Linux: extract the files to /usr/local/EnergyPlus-X-X-X/PreProcess/IDFVersionUpdater

Mac: extract the files to /Applications/EnergyPlus-X-X-X/PreProcess/IDFVersionUpdater/IDFVersionUpdater.app/Contents/MacOS

They may ask to overwrite some files that are in that folder -- say yes to replace the existing files in that folder.

Using the program:

Windows: Run the IDFVersionUpdater program either from EP-Launch=>Utilities tab or from the folder where you have installed these programs.

Linux: To launch the GUI, type "IDFVersionUpdater" from a terminal window. The installer puts a symbolic link to the binary in your path. Alternatively, you can double-click on /usr/local/EnergyPlus-X-X-X/PreProcess/IDFVersionUpdater/IDFVersionUpdater. To run on 64-bit systems you may need to install the ia32-libs package available from the default package manager of almost all Linux distributions.

Mac: To launch the GUI, click on IDFVersionUpdater application bundle from /Applications/EnergyPlus-X-X-X/PreProcess/IDFVersionUpdater.
